Milliken sits in agricultural Weld County, and that shapes both the soil and the kind of concrete we get called out to.
The ground is clay, and it behaves the way clay does everywhere in this county: it swells when wet, shrinks when dry, and moves whatever is poured on top of it. Slabs tip toward whichever side stays damp longest.
What is different here is irrigation density. Ditches, laterals and field irrigation put a great deal of water into the ground, and that water is very good at carrying fine soil out from under concrete. Washout is one of the most common causes we find on Milliken property, particularly where a ditch or a lateral runs near a driveway or a shop.
